Our Verdict

Looking for a durable yet straightforward hydration bladder? The Deuter Streamer is a perfect system for on-the-go hydration. We take it hiking, running, biking in the desert and through the San Juan mountains in Colorado. It's easy to fill, easy to use, and super easy to clean. Also, we love that when empty, it rolls up nicely for easy storage. This is a fine all-around use bladder with decent durability. That said, some of the parts are made of a flimsy but the reservoir itself is quite puncture resistant. Overall, this is a great choice if you seek a simple hydration bladder with a unique bite valve and a more puncture-proof reservoir. It's also a great price!

Our Analysis and Test Results

The Streamer is a no-frills hydration bladder that is perfect for on-the-go sports. It features a heavier plastic construct which offers better durability, but the use of poor quality parts makes it seem cheap. That said, it functions well and does the trick on the trail.

Ease of Use

With a simple design, this slide-top bladder design is easy to use. The closure at the top features a hole to suspend it from clips that hold the bladder in place. While this closure is okay, it takes a little longer to line up the plastic to securely fasten the top. Also, it is not connected to the bladder, but that can be fixed with a little bit of string.

Alison fits the 3L Deuter Streamer into her small running pack. Even though the pack is built to hold a 2L bladder, the 3L option doesn't need to be filled the whole way and offers a little more versatility for use in other packs.

Its slim profile fits nicely into most hydration packs, running vests, and backpack sleeves. The bite valve is different than most, offering a smaller stream of water that shoots out with a little more pressure than other bladders. While we appreciate this difference in design, it doesn't provide as much water as those manufactured by HydraPak. To unlock it, it must be twisted which requires two hands, and the cap must be removed. This takes a little more time than other options. When we left it unlocked while hiking, it didn't leak.

There is a plastic cap that covers the bite valve which bangs against the body when in motion if not properly secured. We would prefer that it didn't exist as we can't see the real function of this cap other than hygiene. Sadly, if you don't like this bite valve, you're stuck with it as it can't be removed from the hose. However, you can change out the hose with pretty much any other option in this review. One notable feature that we really like is the high-quality clips that secure the hose to the bladder. We like this design as it makes releasing the hose easier, and it doesn't get gummed up like other competitors.

Ease of Care

The slide-top opening allows you to access all parts of this bladder and turn it inside out. The hose disconnects at the base of the bladder. The heavier film used is less-porous than other thinner films, which helps to avoid bacterial build-up. While it is not dishwasher-safe, it is easy to maintain. Make sure to blow all water back through the hose and empty after each use. Put it in the freezer to ensure no bacterial growth between uses.

We love the easy clip system. To clean, simply rinse it out, let it dry, and use it again. This system can also come undone pretty easily to clean parts independently.

Ease of Filling

The slide-top opening is large enough to fill from a tap, lake, or stream. While the slide-top opening isn't as elongated or as heavily featured as the Osprey Hydraulics, it certainly has the affinity to collect water from small trickling streams. Lay it down flat to collect water when there isn't a lot around.

The wide mouth offers a large opening for easy filling. The small handle offers a little more friction to grab and pinch it open. However, it's not large handle.

Quality and Durability

Not the most durable bladder out there, we are not the happiest with the quality of some of the features. While we appreciate the thicker film that makes it more impervious to punctures, the seams at which the plastic holder connects started to delaminate almost as soon as we pulled on them during our quality tests. That said, we didn't observe any leaks or issues with other parts of the bladder in our testing period.

Here we see some shotty craftsmanship. The handle is flimsy while the glue looks like it could delaminate after just a few uses.

We didn't observe any issues with bad taste right out the box! Score!

Weight and Compressibility

The heavy plastic film used in this bladder's construction makes it a heavier hydration bladder, but still useful for sports that require a lightweight design. When emptied and the hose is disconnected, it rolls up nicely into a nice, neat package that fits easily into the side or lid of a backpack.

Value

This bladder sits in the middle of the road for the price. This isn't a high-value option, but if you're seeking a bladder that is a little more durable and versatile, this may be a great value for you.

Conclusion

The Deuter Streamer offers hydration for an array of outdoor sports. We love its bomber exterior that provides additional protection from punctures and tears as well as its easy-to-use construction. A great option for hiking, biking, running, and more.
